Ken's Ice Cream Parlor Information

Tucked along Avalon Boulevard in Carson, Ken's Ice Cream Parlor at 18511 Avalon Blvd feels like one of those neighborhood spots that locals quietly cherish and out-of-towners are pleasantly surprised to stumble upon. It’s not trying to be flashy or overly modern-instead, it leans into a classic, welcoming vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer, whether you’re stopping in after dinner or making it your main destination.

The menu is exactly what you’d hope for from a traditional ice cream parlor, with a generous range of flavors that balance nostalgic favorites and a few creative twists. On my visit, the scoops were impressively rich and creamy, clearly made with attention to texture and freshness. The vanilla tasted anything but basic, and the chocolate had that deep, slightly bittersweet finish that signals quality ingredients. There’s also a solid selection of sundaes, milkshakes, and floats, all customizable, which makes it easy to tailor your order depending on your mood. Portions are generous without feeling excessive, and the pricing stays reasonable compared to many dessert spots in the Los Angeles area.

What really stands out is the atmosphere. The interior carries a retro diner charm, with simple seating and a relaxed setup that invites conversation. It’s the kind of place where families gather after a Little League game, couples share a quiet dessert, and regulars chat with the staff. Speaking of service, the team here is friendly and efficient without feeling rushed. Even during a busier evening, orders came out quickly, and the staff didn’t hesitate to offer recommendations when asked.

Location-wise, being in Carson makes it easily accessible for locals, and it’s close enough to major roads that it’s a convenient stop if you’re passing through. Parking wasn’t an issue during my visit, which is always a small but important detail.

Online reviews tend to echo a similar sentiment-consistent quality, a laid-back environment, and a dependable spot for a sweet treat. While it may not have the trend-driven appeal of some newer dessert bars, that’s part of its charm. It knows exactly what it is and delivers on it well, making it a reliable choice when you’re craving something simple, satisfying, and genuinely enjoyable.

What People's Say About Place

Black owned business!!! Let’s support our people! I love coming here & ordering the large vanilla shake. It tastes very homemade & made with love. This is my favorite ice cream shop & I will continue to return here. Don’t forget to give them your number so you can earn points. I have no complaints at all. The ambiance is very chill, the employees are friendly and they all work together well.

Black owned business with great customer service. Awesome selection of ice cream that includes hard to find Black walnut and banana nut and seasonal sweet potato pie and pound cake flavors. Low prices with big scoops. They also have cookies and cake. I will definitely be coming back.

Friendly staff, delicious ice cream (fun flavors!) very generous portions! I will definitely be back!

31 ain't got no flavor on Ken's. The ice cream here doesn't taste like ice milk. With a variety of flavors to choose from, along with multiple toppings, you will absolutely enjoy. The staff is friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. Definitely a hidden gem you must expirence.

Got the peanut butter chocolate and the horchata flavors: they were really good! The peanut butter comes in chunks, so there's either very little or very large peanut butter flavor, and the chocolate was very rich. The horchata kind of reminded me of like a churro flavor. Neither ice cream was too sweet (not even the peanut butter). The portion was huge. It's too scoops of ice cream for a "single", which is about $5-6 depending on cup vs cone. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. There's a $0.50 charge to use credit card. There's tons of parking available.

Old fashion mom & pop family owned ice cream shop. Support your local small business!! The chocolate chip was my favorite.

Always a favorite for creamy ice cream. A few favorite flavors weren't available so it gave me a chance to explore.

Such friendly patient service was only beaten by top-notch full flavored ice cream. I felt like I took a time machine to the 1950s to have the high-quality full milk, cream ice cream.
